Travel Hockey

The Newark Generals travel hockey program participates in the Buckeye Travel Hockey League (BTHL) and Metro Columbus Hockey League (MCHL) alongside other regional clubs. Our goal is to provide players with an opportunity to develop in a competitive environment while building a solid work ethic, character, fundamental hockey skills, and a firm commitment to good sportsmanship. 

Travel Tryouts - 2024/25

Saturday, April 13th

Sunday, April 14th

  • 12:45-1:45pm 10u Travel Tryouts
  • 3:30-4:30pm 14u Travel Tryouts
  • 6:00-7:30pm High School Tryouts #2

Wednesday, April 17th

  • 6:00-7:00 Make-up Tryout Day (all age groups)

commitment and expectations

Players who are selected at tryout are expected to participate in all scheduled tournaments, league games, scrimmages, practices and off ice training sessions throughout the season. Dry land training will typically begin in late July. Players will be expected to arrive 45 minutes before any scheduled game or on ice practice.

Regular Season & Tournament Play

The regular season runs August-February.

Each team will play a minimum of three tournaments throughout the season. Additional tournaments may be added by individual teams.

Players should expect to play anywhere from 2-4 league games on non-tournament weekends.


Practices and Home Games will be held at the Lou and Gib Reese Ice Arena. Away games will held at various arenas.


Travel teams will practice three times a week. This is subject to change pending travel for tournaments. Players are EXPECTED to attend all practices; on and off ice.

Registration Fees

Travel team registration fees are as follows, please note, the registration fee does not include travel team dues, uniforms, or travel expenses:

  • Bantam: $1,275
  • Pee Wee: $1,240
  • Squirt: $1,120

Extra costs

Travel team dues will be determined by the Head Coach and Team Treasurer and are based on the number of tournaments, extra ice time or other team activities, they can range from an estimated $300-$500+

Dues do NOT include jerseys, equipment or travel-related expenses such as gas, food, lodging, etc.


Jerseys and socks will need to be ordered at through the NIHA Registrar. Players will be responsible for purchasing the required jerseys and socks, the cost is not included in NIHA or travel dues.
