Improve athletic performance and develop lifelong wellness by establishing healthy habits at an early age.

Fall sports have ended and the hockey season is in full swing. Youth hockey is about more than just skating fast and scoring goals — it’s about building habits that create success on and off the ice.

Young players should learn the importance of fueling their bodies with nutritious foods like lean proteins (chicken, fish, eggs), complex carbohydrates (whole grains, fruits, vegetables), and plenty of water for hydration. Avoid pregame meals loaded with sugar or caffeine.

Proper nutrition supports energy, focus, and recovery. Combined with consistent sleep, mindfulness, and balancing school responsibilities, these habits help players perform their best and develop lifelong wellness, confidence, and resilience

COACH'S CORNER

A good coach can change a game. A great coach can change a life.

-John Wooden

UCLA Basketball Coach

The NIHA all-coaches meeting took place on 9/8 with coaches ranging from 8U through Varsity in attendance. They discussed rules and expectations for the 2025-'26 season, shared tips & tools for successful practice structures, game-day experiences, and more. Hockey Director, Jeff Laird, highlighted the importance of being a mentor and the benefits of positivity; "Not only do great coaches provide the technical knowledge and tactical guidance to improve an athlete's performance and lead a team to success, but they also teach young people how to interact, bond, grow, learn, and overcome adversity."

Next time you see one of our amazing coaches, please let them know how much you appreciate their time, effort, and energy.

COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT

2025-2026 marks the 30th anniversary of NIHA and Generals Hockey! There will be much to celebrate throughout the season as we plan and host events with current members and alumni!

Planning for our "Big" 30th Anniversary + year-end celebration!

It may seem early to think about the end of our season when we've only just begun, but we have ideas... GREAT BIG IDEAS and we want your input!

In years past, the NIHA community would gather to reflect on its season during an annual banquet. Over time, this event faded away, but it was never forgotten. In fact, it's remembered by Gens alumni as one of the highlights of the season.

With this year marking NIHA's 30th anniversary, what better time could there be to bring back the annual banquet, only BIGGER and BETTER THAN EVER! To do so, we need your feedback.

Strength Through Community.

Please take a minute to answer this short 5-question survey. Your answers will help us plan the celebration of the year!!
