Denison Red vs. White Game 8/31
Don't miss this exciting event!
The annual action-packed Denison Intersquad Scrimmage is scheduled for 8/31 from 5-6:20 pm. This year, we want to "raise the roof" by involving our kids in welcoming Denison's new and returning players. Let's show them support and display how strong our hockey community is by packing the stands!
Two NIHA teams with the highest number of attendees and who display team spirit will receive a prize! 1st place team gets THEIR CHOICE of a pizza party or make-your-own ice cream sundaes! The runner-up team will also be rewarded (they will receive what the 1st place team didn't choose). Winning NIHA teams will be announced at the end of the game. It's a win-win!
The "student section" of youth hockey players will be provided with red pom poms and kazoos! We encourage kids to show their spirit in any way fun... think face paint, homemade signs to wave, funny hats, or colorful attire! Cheer on the Denison players, and create a rink full of excitement! This is sure to be a fun and memorable event for both NIHA and Denison!
Envision colored lights flashing, music pumping, and announcers hyping the crowd! Denison players will be announced as they enter onto the ice through stick tunnels formed by our Generals. A dozen NIHA players will get to stay on the ice during warmups (6 on each side), and one winner gets to take the face-off! Autographs to follow the game!
Details:
- Kids participating in the on-ice stick tunnel should wear their white jerseys, helmet, gloves, and bring their stick
- All kids registered have the option to participate in the stick tunnels. The first 12 registered will be permitted to partake in the on-ice pre-game warm-ups (6 per side)
- Name will be drawn immediately following warm-ups for ONE youth player to take the face-off against a Denison player (then they will safely be escorted to the bench)
- There will be a "student section" in the stands - kids will be given red pom poms, and are encouraged to show their team spirit (wear face paint, funny hats, colorful socks, make signage, bring kazoos, cheer loudly (but in control and under the supervision of volunteer parents)
- If permitted by Denison, a few selected youth players may be allowed to stand behind the bench during one period, wearing their helmets for safety (to be decided the night of the event)
- NIHA Parent volunteers are needed on-site to help organize the kids the day of the event (locker room supervisors, direct them for the stick tunnel formation, coach on ice to manage kids during warm-ups (they must stay behind the players shooting), and draw the winner for the face-off. Please contact Summer Dougherty asdougherty85@gmail.com if you are interested in volunteering the day of the event!
- Kids will have access to locker rooms 1 & 2 to put on their gear. They should arrive 30-45 minutes before the event starts
- An area will be designated for autographs following the game. Kids should bring something to be autographed, such as their stick, a puck, or a favorite t-shirt! (General's game jerseys should not be signed. A different favorite jersey is OK!)
We are exploring ways to partner with Denison to provide new and enriching experiences for our youth players. By connecting our hockey communities more closely, we hope that meaningful and long-lasting bonds will form between our teams. Stay tuned for what's next with Denison to help strengthen our community!
